There are times in life where we look at a photo, but see so much more than we expected. Whether there is a blurry figure we can’t quite make out or something far more sinister. Here are some scary photos that reveal chilling secrets.
6. Eerie Figure Lurking in Woods
There are some moments in life that are too beautiful not to capture on camera. It’s easy to imagine one’s shock when going back to look at these memorable photos to instead find a chilling figure staring back at you.
This is exactly what happened in the case of these scary photos, posted to Reddit by user Lonely_Pines. The original image displays the stunning fall leaves the uploader meant to immortalize. However, if you take a closer look, there appears to be an eerie, white face peering out from behind one of the trees.
Some have even compared the figure to Michael Myers, the mask wearing character from the Halloween films, probably the last person you’d want to run into during a peaceful hike.
Interestingly, the uploader also notes that their walk took place on an old homestead in Colorado. Supposedly, the ranch there once served as housing for the animals of the P.T. Barnum Circus during the 1880’s.

5. Photo Reveals Something Chilling

Captured by Katrina Paraiso and featured on the website, Daily Feed this picture is potentially one of the creepiest ones we’ve ever seen. It’s unimaginable to think what emotions Paraiso must have experienced when she first saw the photo.
Paraiso, a young Filipino woman on vacation in Japan, simply did something many do while on holidays. She took a selfie inside the house in which she was staying. However, that simple act would go on to yield one of the most scary photos ever captured.

Although the original image is quite dark, you can vaguely make out a roundish, black shape on the floor behind the photographer. When the image is lightened however, the chilling truth becomes apparent.
Paraiso appears to have captured a disembodied head lying on the floor! It looks to have raggedy, unkempt hair and a menacing expression on its face. However, this cannot be possible as the website claims that there was no one else in the house that the head could have belonged to.
While there is no denying that this is a very creepy photo, just what it actually shows remains a mystery. As it’s obvious that there was not an actual disembodied head in the room when the picture was taken, it becomes easy to turn to the supernatural for answers. Could this photo perhaps show the ghost of someone who tragically died in this very room? Or is it more likely that the image is just a very creepy case of pareidolia?
Whatever the outcome, one can only hope that Paraiso immediately changed locations after this chilling encounter.
4. Ghostly Face Photographed in Old House
Posted to Reddit by user thebrannenbros, this series of scary photos was captured at the Whaley House in San Diego, California. Named LIFE magazine’s 2005 “most haunted house in America”, this home has long been known for its purported supernatural hauntings.
The house’s legend asserts that a man named James “Yankee Jim” Robinson was once hung on the property for stealing a boat and that his ghost continues to roam the area to this day. Some visitors have even reported seeing the apparitions of owners, Thomas and Anna Whaley making this house a very popular ghost tour destination.
With deaths and tragedies on the property dating back to the 1800’s, the possibility of running into a ghost in the Whaley House certainly seems possible. Still, managing to actually capture a roaming spirit in a photo is impressively creepy.
This photo is the last in a series of three that appear to have captured a ghostly figure lurking in the doorway of one of the rooms. Its face looks old and appears to have dark, sunken eyes which seems to fit the description of several resident spirits.
With the Whaley House being one of the most documented spots for hauntings in the US, it certainly adds to the credibility of these photos. So, what do you think? 3. Mysterious Cloaked Intruder
The availability of cameras at our fingertips has made it easier than ever to accidentally capture ghost sightings where you least expect them.
In this instance, these photos uploaded to Reddit by user idobelievewerenaked seem to demonstrate exactly that. Supposedly taken just seconds apart, these exterior snaps of a house quickly transform from innocent to terrifying.
The first photo is completely normal. It is obvious that there is nothing odd occurring. However, when shown alongside the second photo, the innocent context of the original image suddenly becomes very creepy.
Unexpectedly, the second photo shows a dark and mysterious figure standing in the lower window. The uploader has clarified that nobody was inside at the time. This makes the shadowy figure’s presence all the more disturbing.
If there was indeed no one in the house at the time the photos were taken, then there seems to be only two conclusions that one can come to. Either the figure is a human intruder or something supernatural. Either way, it’s obvious why the photographer was so thoroughly creeped out by the unexplained presence.

2. Ghostly Hand Reaches From Bathtub

This photo was captured in December, 2013, by the late host and columnist, Peaches Geldof. It was taken just a year before her untimely death, and even spooked Geldof herself.
What should have been an innocent and cute selfie of Geldof and her son Astala, quickly revealed something chilling. When she posted the photo to Instagram, she wrote, ‘Close up shot of the mystery ghost hand in pic I took of Astala and me in the bath!! And no that isn’t my hand — one of mine was round his waist to hold him during the photo, the other holding the camera to take the shot. Also the hand is around my shoulder so totally weird angle if I did it myself!! How terrifying!!’
Short of an odd stunt in which a third person purposefully placed their hand on Geldof’s shoulder, the only remaining explanation for the mysterious hand seems to be a supernatural one.

The last of the scary photos on our list just happens to have been captured by none other than singer and pop sensation, Jennifer Lopez. After uploading a post-workout selfie to her Instagram page, it wasn’t long before fans spotted something terrifying in the background.
The photo was captured at Lopez’s residence so it would seem odd to have anyone other than friends, family, or a personal trainer present. However, not only is there a mysterious man visible in the background of the photo; he also seems to be distressed. Judging by the look on his face, it quickly becomes obvious that he is not part of some treasured photograph placed in the background of the star’s home.
Instead, viewers began to speculate that the man appeared to be restrained somehow. Some noted that he looked as though he had a hand covering his mouth as if attempting to emit a stifled yell. Others suggested that he was actually wearing a mask similar to the ones that have become popular during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Turns out the mystery was solved a few days later when Lopez appeared on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She claimed that her fiancé, former baseball star Alex Rodriguez was actually on a ZOOM call with a real estate agent and that it was his face that was visible in the background.
While the mysterious man’s identity in now known, it certainly had Lopez’s fans understandably concerned, hoping that something sinister was not about to befall the pop megastar.
