Dog Bark Park

Eccentric Hotels

Ever wanted to sleep in a giant pooch? Well now you can, at the Dog Bark Park in Cottonwood Idaho. Starting back in 1997, self-proclaimed chainsaw artists Dennis Sullivan and Frances Conklin managed to carve out the world’s two largest beagles: Toby and Sweet Willy. Standing at over 9 metres tall, Sweet Willy is a two-bedroom mega hound, filled with all the amenities you’d expect from a dog themed hotel like little canine carvings, canine cookies, canine shaped soaps, canine floor mats…Well you get the drift, it’s a little creepy. But the owners do promise they won’t watch you while you sleep, so that’s something!

A bit of German Hospitality

The Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin boasts 31 eclectic rooms to choose from, each with their own unique style and ambiance. Ranging from slightly odd with some bizarre colour palettes and furniture placements to outright dungeon porn settings; this themed hotel is so German it hurts. Highlights include the labyrinth where you can either sleep in a maze at the bottom of the room or get comfy in several upstairs coffins.

One of the more surreal rooms has all the furniture fixed to the roof, while another has a secret bathroom in the wardrobe. But the most outlandish room would have to be the one described as the ‘spacious menagerie’. Boasting two giant cages mounted on poles, this room is for the exhibitionist in us all, as the far wall is actually a two-way mirror allowing your neighbours to peep in on the action – es ist gut, ja?

It’s every kid’s dream to live in a tree house, well if you happen to find yourself in northern Sweden you can live that dream for at least a short time. This unique hotel, known as The Treehotel offers a selection of five masterfully designed, ultra modern tree houses each with their own exceptional appearance, along with a sleek public sauna nestled amongst the pine forest. The rooms vary in size with the biggest being able to accommodate up to four adults.

The standout rooms are:

For something a little different why not try the UFO. In stark contrast to the natural camouflage of The Birdsnest, this 30 metre square room comfortably fits two adults and three children.

Poseidon Resorts

This resort is set to boast the most amazing and unique views in the world. This spectacular concept-hotel is not yet open to the public but is taking expressions of interest. Pitched at the vacationing elite this world-first undersea resort is nestled in the waters of Fiji just off ‘Poseidon Mystery Island’, a 225 acre playground for the rich. Kitted out with a nine-hole ‘executive’ golf course, tennis courts, fitness centre and all the indulgent amenities you’d expect from a 5-star resort, there’s even a 300 metre luxury submersible for guests to explore the oceans depths.  It is rumoured that reservations at the resort cost $30,000 per week per couple.

Christmas Comes but Once a Year

Christmas is that special time of year filled with mirth and merriment, gifts and good company. Well, in Japan there is a hotel that celebrates Christmas every day of the year but in a perverted kind of way. Hotel Chapel Christmas in Osaka is actually a themed love hotel. (Now if you’re not familiar with love hotels in Japan, well they allow amorous couples to pay for the room by the hour) Filled with resplendent Christmas decorations, a cheery Santa-Claus on arrival and a more risqué brand of mirth and merriment, this weird hotel is bound to stuff your stockings with more Christmas magic then you can handle.
