Let It Go sing-along sung by Queen Elsa of Arendelle and voiced by Idina Menzel was only uploaded in 2014 but has already amassed more than 1 billion views. The character of Elsa is loosely based on the title character from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, The Snow Queen. Interestingly, the idea to turn the fairy tale into an animated film had been in the works for years, even Walt Disney himself attempted to adapt the story for film. The problem was that in the original fairytale, the Snow Queen was cold hearted therefore the lead character would have to be depicted as somewhat of a villain. The problem was overcome when Anna (who was based on the Gerda character from The Snow Queen) was rewritten to be Elsa’s younger sister. Elsa’s character also evolved, becoming more sympathetic and misunderstood.
